Lots of Holiday Cards? Here’s 5 Fun Ways to Display Them!

Holiday Cards ImageAhh - the holiday season. Friends, family, food, and cards. Lots of cards. Rather than stacking them on your desk intending to get to them later - why not display them? Here are 5 fun ways to get your cards off the paper pile, and into your home for all to enjoy.

Card Display Idea One - Narrow Shelves or Tables
One common way to display those holiday cards is on the mantel, piano, and bookshelves. The problem with is that each card takes a lot of space to prop open, and it doesn’t take much to knock them over.
To display them on a narrow, flat surface, us picture clips instead. This will make your cards sturdy, and take much less space for display.

You can find all kinds of decorative clips, many with holiday themes. Look in department stores, hobby stores, and dollar stores, and be sure to check the clearance section! These clips may be found in the holiday section, and in the office supply section.
To make your own card clip, use large paper clips, and glue them to some sort of base. Wood cutouts, stones, and small brightly wrapped boxes work well.

Card Display Idea Two - Tabletops
Usually when you want to display your cards on a table top, you have only a little space to work with. Use this idea to get more holiday cheer in less space.
Use a card tree to display more cards with less space. You can also group several different types together for a nice centerpiece.

You can buy these many places, and they come in many different forms. Some are larger, with clips for cards and notes. Others have slots to place your cards in.
You can also use ornament trees. Just punch a hole in the corner of the card, add a ribbon, and tie it on the ornament tree.
To make your own, buy a wooden tree, snowman, or other holiday form. Cover both sides with felt. Now, attach a small piece of velcro or other hook ‘n loop tape to the back of the card. Stick it on the “tree” and you have a nice card display.

Card Display Idea Three - Portable Display
If you like to move things around a lot, or you want to have several card displays, this idea is for you.
What you will make is a decorated box you can fill with your holiday cards. If you want a larger display, use several boxes together. If you have a small space, use a box that perfectly fits the space. Decorate in colors that match your decor, and you have completely custom card display.

You can use photo boxes without the lid, wooden or paper boxes you can paint or decopauge, or old shoe boxes or packing boxes you cover with wrapping paper. Add a nice bow to the front, or a small ornament, and you have a nice display that matches perfectly your space and decor.

Card Display Idea Four - Wall Space
If you prefer to hang your cards on the wall, here’s an idea that will spare your wall from nail holes and tacky adhesive, and allow you to display your cards with any wall space you want to use.
The basic idea is to use ribbon and clothes pins. You will need a piece of ribbon that is between 2″ and 4″ wide, and is the length of space you have on your wall. You can add trim or beads to the top and bottom of your card display ribbon.

Next, you need the clips for the cards. You can use flat clothes pins that you paint or decorate, or the old fashioned clothes pins for a more natural look.
For a larger wall, hang three ribbons, one in a wider width in the middle, and two with a small width on either side. You can also vary the length of the ribbon for more variety.
If you have several small spaces on various walls, make several ribbons to hold just a few cards at each location.

If you have vertical wall space, use your cards for garland. You can either attach your cards to garland using paper clips, or make new garland with your cards.
To make new garland, attach a card to heavy string or yarn, then add another decorative piece like a pine cone, or felt cut out, or ribbon and bows, or ornaments. Then, attach another card, then another decorative piece.

Card Display Idea Five - The Tree
One final place to display your holiday cards - on the tree.
One way is to cut out the picture on the card, discarding the back, and hang it with ribbon as an ornament.

Another way to use your tree as a card display is to decorate large office clips or clothes pins. Add a pinecone, or felt holiday motifs, or curly ribbon. Then, just clip the card to the tree. If you want a dangly card, attach a ribbon to the card and clip the ribbon to the tree.
